The Science of Movies - Crafting An Action Figure.

The link is to ninjavideo.net - one of my favorite websites, and my only "t.v. channel." Tons of shows to watch, and all posted in a very timely manner. They get some new release films too, but the image quality varies. (Like for movies people videotaped in the theatre, say.) But they have DVD rips too, which look great. For instance, they have the director's cut of Watchmen there already somehow, and I watched it there last week.

Anyway, this program is a movie nerd's dream. So is having an action figure of oneself. I find it hugely impressive to learn how action figures are made, too. I never knew.

A couple of months ago, I traveled to my mother’s place for a visit. It was only a few days before the opening of the Watchmen film, so I had my action figures with me. I’m just a dork that way. But -- best decision ever.

From a recent interview in Toy Fare Magazine with Jackie Earle Haley:


TF: How does it feel to be an action figure?

JEH: Awesome! I can't even describe it. My wife is absolutely giddy. When the pictures first came out, she put the image on her iPhone and was showing it to everybody. It's pretty exciting. I've never been an action figure before.

TF: They're making a bunch of statues and busts, too. Are you going to get a Rorschach head to put on your mantle?

JEH: I'm going to get one of each character and have my geeky little Watchmen shrine somewhere in the house.

TF: Besides commitment papers, what accessory do you think Rorschach has to have?

JEH: It would be cool if he had a little grappling gun to take out and start firing. Or how about one where you can take the mask off and see the little red head?

TF: There's a certain demographic out there that wouldn't mind having some Bad News Bears action figures, particularly your cigarette-chomping little punk Kelly Leak.

JEH: That would be cool! Who do we call?



The reading-between-the-lines part of me wonders who exactly this "certain demographic" is. Whatever it is they're insinuating, I'd be among them lining up to buy a Kelly Leak. Rorschach's apprentice.
